Flooding in Exwick in the 1950s and 60s
Ginny's memories
By Ginny
Exwick was always flooding when I was a child. There were no flood schemes then. We used to go for crocodile walks from school, down over St David's Hill and cross the road at the Red Cow pub - which is no more - then across the railway line and across Station Road. The fields were all covered in water. You couldn't see the grass. That was on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning after church. The houses at Exwick Villas were all sandbagged. I've never forgotten it, it's so vivid. The fields were completely covered. I often think of it when I'm walking to and fro down there with my dog.
