Comments/reviews:

Hi Ern, I think your Great grandmother Ellen is my Grandmothers sister, as I know she lived in Fairfield House. My Gran was called Mary Ann Kerswell before she married my grandfather, she had three sisters, I asked my mother who is 91 if she could remember their names and she said that one she called Aunty Nell (which is probably a derivative from Ellen), the other ones were Rose, Florence and of course my gran Mary Ann. As a child my mother worked full time and I went up to my grans to wait for my mother to finish work so I was very close to my gran and spent a lot of time with her. I was fascinated by the stories she used to tell me of her life as a child, that she had a pony and trap which she had taken out without permission and it ran away with her on Fore Street, Exeter which is quite a steep hill. She was the adventurous one and was always getting into scrapes. I remember a conversation with her that she said her mother and father hadn't wanted the school to be built on the field where they kept the horses but that in the summer she used to chat to the children which I suppose kept her from being lonely. I am not sure what the relationship is between us but there probably is one. Pat
