Another local find
By Sarah, Curator of West Exe and Oliver Blackmore, Assistant Curator of Antiquities

This coin was found beside the Plymouth Inn in Alphington Road.  It is an as. This is the lowest amount of money for an early Roman coin found in Britain, a bit like a 1p coin today. The coin was made under the Emperor Nero (AD 54-68). This was when the Romans had been running Britain for about a hundred years.

Please see another Roman coin that was found by the River Exe.

Please see a group of Roman coins that were found in St Thomas.

There were no U.S. coins made for that visit by the U.S. mints, that is why info is scarce. It may be a private medal. I see no Japanese coin for the event either. I would need photo's or high quality scans of it (both sides) to do further research. If you can do that click on my icon and email me. I will send you an email address to send them to. You can also see if a local coin club can help. Most U.S. coin dealers would have no idea of what you have or it's value.
