These fragments of human bone come from a late Bronze Age ring ditch at Markham Lane, near Alphington. This represented the remains of people buried in a bowl barrow. At least two cremations were found from the barrow, along with undecorated pottery and flints.

The Bronze Age lasted from 2000 BC to 700 BC so these remains are at about two and a half thousand years old. The barrow has been destroyed by centuries of ploughing.

Archaeologists were brought in to excavate the area between 1973-4, just before the new A30 road was built.
