By Penny, Living Here Co-ordinator

We are running daytime taster days in February and March 2008. There will be the opportunity to learn new skills and meet others who share your enthusiasm. These days are for beginners with little or no experience in the subject area. All tasters are FREE, thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

They will be held at the Living Here community office and school hall, both in the Old School, Exwick, EX4 4NZ.

Digital photography - from camera to print, the basics

Thursdays 13 or Friday 14 March, 10am to 2.30pm

Please bring a packed lunch

Tutor: Russell Lilley, Design Consultant

Confused by digital cameras? We'll go through the basics of taking a photo, transferring it onto the computer, editing it (e.g. cropping and resizing) and printing it off. Digital cameras available but bring your own if you have one. This course is about the basic technicalities. We'll leave the creativity to you.

Oral history

Thursday 14 February, 12.30am to 4.30pm

or Friday 29 February, 9am to 1pm

Tutor: Philippe Planel

Oral history is rewarding and, with a little guidance, something everyone can do. This day will help get you started with the skills to gather people's personal stories and share them with the wider community.  We'll also look at some of the obligations and responsibilities - moral, ethical and legal - to consider before you pick up a microphone and start interviewing.

Creative writing inspired by your own life

Thursday 28 February, 10am to 2.30pm

Please bring a packed lunch

Tutor: David Heathfield, Creative Communicators. www.davidheathfieild.co.uk

Using events and memories from our own lives and your family's past we will try out enjoyable ways to capture these stories to share with others. Suitable for adults of all ages. Pens, paper and computers (if you want to use one) supplied.

An introduction to the Internet through local history websites

Tuesday 11 March, 10am to 2.30pm

Please bring a packed lunch

Tutor: Sarah Scaife, RAMM Curator of West Exe

If you've heard all about the Internet but never really had chance to get onto it, this day is for you. We will learn the basics of how to find and open websites move around in their pages and print things off. The sites we explore will be about local history of one sort or another.
