NEED TO CHECK THESE IMAGES. Numbers don't match my slides!

Using [slide 10 from the original disc] look at layout and landmarks.  Then look at [slide 6] to show river and other features that they can see - houses, river, railway? Flood plain?  Discuss differences/similarities.

Using [slide 7 (initial map)] look at differences/similarities, as above.

Task:  Everyone to produce a two column chart entitled 'Now and Then'

NOW                        THEN

More able pupils to work on acetate overlays of maps to identify differences and similarities. Have a photocopy of the earliest map with an acetate overlay and ask children to plot the present day key landmarks onto the acetate.

Plenary session - Children to discuss what they have plotted with the rest of the class.  Discuss.
