'Devon Leather'

An outline history of tanners and tanneries in 19th century Devon.
A new book by Martin Bodman

As there were then tanneries in St Thomas's parish and at Alphington, you may be interested, as these have entries in the gazetteer, which represents the main body of the book. 'Devon Leather' has been well received and recently got an airing on Radio Devon when Tony Beard, current president of the Devonshire Association, interviewed me on Pippa Quelch's Saturday morning show.

Comments/reviews:

Devon Leather is a beautifully produced book which is easy to read and yet is full of detail.
It is amazing the number of tanneries there were in Devon, almost every town and village of any size had at least one tannery.
Well worth a read
