Local Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans heritage
By Sarah, Curator of West Exe
Do you have a memory or a reflection on LGBT life which you'd like to record for future generations. Maybe you have a photo to upload - a shirt you wore to a particular event, a bike you road somewhere special, a photo of a place where something memorable happened?
Living Here is a RAMM initiative guided by local people in Alphington, Cowick, Exwick and St Thomas. People of all ages and all walks of life get involved to celebrate, explore and create your neighbourhood heritage. Together many people west of the Exe are writing the history of the future. Please add your voices. In February 2008 we joined with the intercom trust for LGBT History Month. We invite you to add your own LGBT heritage to this website all year round!
Sensitive?
For sensitive material which you would like to archive but would not be appropriate to publish here please contact Sarah at intercom (see below). She can also provide local advice and support on uncovering LGBT history contact. Sarah explains:
It is complicated to develop an understanding of an LGBT past and put together the pieces. The LGBT population have often had to live in secrecy and under the oppression of legislation. It's time to expand our hidden histories and to individually or collectively curate our memories.

New takes on old material
Views of the past change and unfold as the current 'Hadrian' exhibition at the British Museum demonstrates. Here at RAMM we're always interested to hear new angles on old stuff too. If you uncover LGBT history related to the neighbourhoods west of the Exe please think about adding it to this site. Here's a page from Sarah Stephenson to get things started: William Courtenay, Earl
