Interview-Debbie James

1. Q. When and where were you born?
A. Plymouth 24/6/65 , moved to Exeter at 7 weeks.

2.Q.How long have you lived west of the Exe?
A.41 years

3.Q.What was it like growing up as a child here?
-Did you go to school here? If so what were your lessons/teachers like?
A. Yes, Montgomery and St.Thomas high. Most where fine but some were strict and intimidating e.g. times tables.

-What did you do in your free time? Where did you go?
A. Gymnastics, Athletics-as a young teenager, brownies and guides.

4.Q.What are some of the most important/special places for you West of Exe and why?
A. St.Thomas church because I got married there. Ide because it's good for dog walking (I have a dog) and cycling along the river. Riverside leisure centre because its good for children's activities.

5.Q.What are your most treasured memories of living here?
A. The Queens silver jubilee street party. Climbing apple trees and making dens in our long garden.

6.Q.How has the area changed in your lifetime?
A. Much more manic , too many cars. Not as safe as it used to be. More buildings going up like housing Estate by St.Thomas.

7.Q.What makes living here special?
A. There is a lot of community spirit. Different facilities offered i.e. Health centre , toddler groups , riverside , school , river walking and cycling

Job
Teaching assistant in a west of exe primary school and gymnastics coach there.
