Willey's Sports and Social Club, St. Thomas

A post-war photograph
By Rowena Jay

This is a post-war picture of members of Willey's Club who entertained at the Club House on a Saturday night in the 1950s.

Local characters identified are from left:

  • 1st "Scratch" Hitchman, a local coal merchant;
  • 4th Walt Dart, dressed as a Pearly King, Chairman of the Entertainment Committee;
  • 5th Maud Sangwin as a Pearly Queen;
  • 6th Bob Kennedy dressed in drag, he also did a great impersonation of the wartime speeches of Winston Churchill. The pianist is Tom Darke.

It would be good if the other people in the photograph could be identified.

The photograph is owned by Christine Trigger.
