The silver medal was awarded to Thomas Plane, then aged fifteen, a pupil at the Alphington School for Boys. The school was run by Laurence Halloran.

One side shows Minerva, the Ancient Greek goddess of wisdom. She is holding the pupil's hand whilst she points to the temple of fame, a rocky mount in the distance. On the other side is an inscription which names Thomas.

The inscription on this medal is in Latin. As far as I can make out it reads:
Thomas Plane schola Alphingtoninse juxta Exoniam Urbem propitor insignes in artibus progrefsus - etc Morum Conspicuam probitutem Signum hoc honorarium Reportand A.D. 1795 a[t?] 15
If your Latin is better than mine any attempt at a translation would be gratefully received! Please add another comment to this page...
