Katharine Pringle from West Exe Children's Centre received a Commendation Teaching Award in the Enterprise Category for her work at the Centre and in partnership with RAMM on various Early Years Projects. Philippa Wood (RAMM's Family Learning Officer) recommended her for the award for her consistent and enthusiastic cooperation and interest in creating links between Early Years children, their families, and RAMM.

There were over 8,000 entries so this award was an impressive achievement. Katharine and Philippa attended the celebration ceremony in June 2009 at Dartington Hall.

The Early Years projects included:

  • Stone Soup - an investigation of communication skills in young children in relation to museum objects for the SW.
Museum Hub (Early Years) - in this case, pots, cauldrons, food utensils, food and feasting.
  • Sense of Place - exploring the local vicinity and its history        -we visited the church and the ancient Lucombe Oak, noticed the old Fire Station and enjoyed the benefits of public play space established in 1899.
  • Victorian Christmas - in which we all dressed in Victorian clothes, made costume dolls, and had a Victorian feast with carols and games.
  • Living Here - a major project which resulted in the building of a cob shelter and oven which the children helped build and continue to use with a wide range of members of the local community.
  • Finally 'Ratbags!', our project for the SW Hub (Early Years)
Parents as First Educators research which will provide a route for the engagement of families at the Priory.
