Searching for Alphington!

Thomas Alphington – updated 29th October 2007
By Rowena Jay

During the late 1700s a foundling was found in a porch way in the village. He was taken in and christened on the 13th April 1794 in Alphington Church. He was given the name of Thomas Alphington.

I have started researching records and Census Returns to find his descendents, if there are any. In one Census Return I found a Rose Alphington who was living in Middlesex in 1901, she was aged 45 and, therefore, born in about 1856. I have since found out that she was born in Camberwell, London.

New

From the 1871 Census Returns I have now found: James Alphington aged 23; Sarah Alphington aged 20; Sarah Alphington aged 0; living at South Shields, Westoe.

My research continues. However, in the meantime, if anyone knows of a person with the surname "Alphington", or similar, please let me know via a comment below.
