Living Here Primary School Project

Cowick (Redhills)
By Kate Osborne, RAMM Access Officer

RAMM has been working alongside Redhills Primary School to get children investigating the historic environment in Cowick. Children in Key Stage 2 learned to uncover clues in their neighbourhood, and used role play to understand some of their local geography and history.

Teachers at the school have developed a great set of activities which they tested out with pupils in Autumn 2008. The resource uncovers history of the poor, disabled and marginalised locals who were sent to the workhouse...It was formally launched in November 2008. You can have a look here: Local Area Resource for key Stage2.

Bowhill Primary: children will look for clues about the history of the landscape around their own schools.
